Powder Coating for Alloy Wheels in Slough. Tough Finish

Powder coating is a different process from standard wet paint refurb. The wheel is stripped back to bare alloy, primed, the powder is electrostatically applied, then the whole wheel goes into a curing oven for a set bake cycle. The result is a finish far tougher than spray paint, more resistant to chips, brake dust, salt, fuel and harsh wheel cleaners. We powder coat at our Slough workshop for owners across Berkshire who want the finish to actually last.

It is the right choice for daily drivers in west London traffic, off-road and overland 4x4 builds, fleet vehicles, and any car that lives outside year-round. It is also the right choice if you have just spent serious money on a set of forged or split rim wheels and want the finish to last.

What the Slough Car Servicing powder coating process in Slough involves

  • Tyres off and full chemical strip. old paint and lacquer removed cleanly back to bare alloy. We do not powder coat on top of cracked or peeling old paint
  • Shot blast prep. the surface profile that lets the powder grip mechanically. The step almost nobody else does properly
  • Etch primer applied. stops the alloy oxidising under the powder layer in years to come
  • Powder applied and oven baked. electrostatically charged spray, then fully cured in the oven, not air-dried
  • Clear powder top coat on metallics. for any finish that needs depth and chip protection. Optional but recommended on premium colours
  • Tyres refitted and rebalanced. Road Force balance after, with valves renewed. Wheels go back on ready to drive

Finishes and colours we coat most often

Gloss black, satin black and matt black for the classics. Anthracite, gunmetal and graphite for the premium German look. Bronze and matt bronze for Honda Type R, Civic FK8 and FL5, Toyota GR Yaris and BBS-style fitments. Hyper silver, ice silver and OE-style silvers for stock-look refurbs. Bright colours and unusual finishes (forest green, sand, copper, candy reds) on request, with sample sprays first. Anything in the RAL catalogue can be ordered in for your wheels at our Berkshire workshop.

Powder coating vs standard wet spray refurb

Wet spray refurb is fine for owners who want a refresh and accept they may need to do it again in a couple of years. Powder coating is the choice for owners who want the wheels to look the same in five years as they do this week. The trade-off is time (powder takes longer in process) and price (small premium per wheel). For commuter cars doing 20,000+ miles a year through Slough and Heathrow, it pays back fast.

Diamond cut wheels are a separate process again and need wet lacquer because the cut face cannot be re-cut endlessly. We will tell you straight which finish your wheels suit before quoting, no upsell.

"Highly recommend this garage. After contacting a few other garages who didn't want to take my car in for diagnostics, these guys were happy to help. They diagnosed and fixed an engine fuel leak issue professionally and efficiently. Great service and very reliable. I'll definitely use them again."

Powder Coating for Alloy Wheels in Slough. Tough Finish. Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a set of four take?+
Three to five working days at normal volume, including blast prep, primer, powder coat, oven cure and tyre refit.
Can you do my OE diamond cut wheels in powder?+
Only if you accept a fully painted finish across the face. Powder coating is not used to replicate diamond cut. We will quote standard diamond cut as the alternative if that is what you want.
Is powder coating tougher than spray paint?+
Yes, significantly. Better chip resistance, better against road salt and harsh wheel cleaners, far less prone to lacquer peel.
Can I have the centres a different colour to the rim?+
Yes, two-tone powder coat is one of our most popular finishes. Quoted as one job, not double.
Do you need to take the tyres off?+
Yes. Powder coating cannot be done with tyres on the wheel, the oven heat is not suitable with the rubber fitted. Tyre removal and refit is included in the quote.
