Types of wheel damage we see

Kerb scuffs

Scrapes on the rim edge from parking. Usually cosmetic and fixed with a refurbishment.

Buckles

A bent rim from a pothole, often felt as vibration at speed or a slow air leak.

Cracks

A split in the rim, usually on the inner barrel. Needs assessing before anything else.

Corrosion

Bubbling paint or lacquer, and air leaks where the tyre seals against the rim.

Choosing the right repair

Every damaged wheel has to be assessed before we can say what's possible. Not every wheel can be repaired safely.

Cosmetic damage such as kerb damage or corrosion is dealt with by an alloy wheel refurbishment. Structural damage such as a buckle or crack needs straightening or welding first, and in some cases the safe answer is a replacement wheel. We'll always tell you which applies, rather than hiding damage under fresh paint.

Checks we make

With the tyre off, we check the wheel for run-out, cracks and damage to the bead seat. After any repair the tyre is refitted with a new valve, balanced and checked for leaks before the wheel goes back on the car.

"Highly recommend this garage. After contacting a few other garages who didn't want to take my car in for diagnostics, these guys were happy to help. They diagnosed and fixed an engine fuel leak issue professionally and efficiently. Great service and very reliable. I'll definitely use them again."

Alloy Wheel Repair: common questions

Can you tell what's wrong from a photo?+
Often, yes, for cosmetic damage. Buckles and cracks usually need the wheel checked in person with the tyre off.
Is a buckled wheel dangerous?+
It can be. A buckle can cause vibration, air loss and uneven tyre wear, and may hide a crack. Get it checked soon.
Do I need a new tyre?+
Not usually. If the tyre is undamaged it's refitted with a new valve and balanced.
