The Volkswagen Polo is one of the longest-running superminis on UK roads, with several generations sold since the 1970s. Most cars seen for servicing today are from the more recent Mk5 and Mk6 generations, both built on VW Group platforms shared with the SEAT Ibiza and Audi A1.
Generations and body styles

Timing belt, wet belt or chain
Certain 1.0 and 1.2 TSI engines use a timing chain, while some three-cylinder units have used a toothed belt depending on engine code and year, so it's worth confirming which is fitted rather than assuming.
