The Audi A1 has been built in two main generations since 2010, sharing much of its underpinnings with the VW Polo and Golf ranges. As a premium supermini it carries small-capacity turbocharged engines that reward regular oil changes and careful attention to ancillary components.
Generations and body styles

Petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric

What servicing it needs

Gearbox
The A1 was available with a 5- or 6-speed manual, or a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic depending on engine and trim. The S tronic benefits from a fluid and filter change at the intervals Audi specifies for the model year, as this is not always a lifetime-fill item across every version.
Timing belt, wet belt or chain
Certain 1.0 and 1.2 TFSI engines use a timing chain, while some later three-cylinder units use a toothed belt arrangement; the correct interval depends on the exact engine code, so it's worth confirming which unit is fitted before assuming a chain needs no attention.
